March 2017 – Bridgenway Mews Falconry

Vernon and Owl

Vernon (L) and Reg (R)

Due to unforeseen problems the March meeting was held a week later than usual, but the extra wait was forgiven when our Chair, Belle Bird, began her talk.

Belle gave a brief but interesting and amusing life story before showing off her beloved birds together with photographs of her youth and anecdotes of her life.

Then she turned to her birds. True to form Reg, a Bengal Eagle Owl had a mind of his own and missed Belle’s outstretched gloved hand several times before doing the flight properly. Who said never perform with children or animals? Reg demonstrated the wonderful wing span of an owl as he toured the room much to the delight of all.  Legend the Tawny Owl came on next and showed how a young owl should behave….for a while.

We were allowed a chance to hold one of the owls whilst the usual photographs were taken for the family album.

Cakes and drinks were served, but the owls still won the day. Thanks Belle, and thanks to Reg and Legend.
