Iris Filmer has been faithful, loyal and supportive member of both this present Society and the previous Twycross Zoo Association. Iris was an early member of the TZA and served for many years as a member of the TZA Council. During the 1980’s she joined the hard-working and supportive volunteer group of the TZA. As well as helping in the Information Centre, she became a stalwart of the then famous Santa’s Grotto and produced countless home-made cakes, none of which remained unsold at the end of each day!
As the activities of the volunteer group grew, she helped to supervise the book sales and in the setting up of the staff library at the zoo.
There are many stories that could be told, and are repeated at times by those who know her well about the days spent in the company of friends, especially Mary Brancker, Rowena Johnson and Barbara Brittain [Brit].
Iris still supports us, though not as often as she would wish, and it was felt that she should be recognised for all the support she has provided over the years.
Belle Bird, Chairman of our Society, presented her with a certificate of recognition and awarded her with an Honorary Life Membership.
